Miranda Lambert definitely ain't in Kansas anymore.
The "Mama's Broken Heart" singer hit the red carpet at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards—hosted this year by Megan Thee Stallion—Sept. 11 looking absolutely stunning in a black pantsuit paired with a teal bra as she celebrated her first time at the VMAs alongside husband of five years, Brendan McLoughlin. (Click here to see all the fashion on the red carpet.)
And it was a special night for the couple, especially as the 40-year-old—who is a presenter tonight at the UBS Arena in New York City—revealed that Brendan had inspired her upcoming album, Postcards from Texas, debuting on Sept. 13.
"Brendan’s the best," Miranda exclusively told E! News correspondent Will Marfuggi while on the red carpet. "He’s down for anything, super happy and supportive, in the best way. Let’s me do my thing, but is right there beside me and it’s really awesome."
And Brendan—who even has a songwriting credit on the new album—will soon be celebrating a birthday, but as Miranda joked, "He’s not fun, he doesn’t like to celebrate."
Instead, the two of them will likely share a quiet night at home, with Brendan cooking, because as he told E! News, "That’s what makes me happy.” And he'll probably be prepping something Italian—Miranda is partial to his chicken parmesan— as Brendan said, "that’s home for me."
And despite their busy schedules, the "Gunpowder & Lead" singer shared that she and Brendan always find time for each other.
"We kinda live on a date honestly," she explained. "Like, we really spend a lot of time together. We’re like best friends. Even when there’s time apart we really find a way to connect and always have date nights." (For more from Miranda's interview, tune into E! News tonight, Sept. 11, at 11 p.m.)
And New York is definitely a special place for the pair, as it's where they met in November 2018 while Brendan was working security detail during Miranda's visit to Good Morning America with her group the Pistol Annies.
"My girlfriends, the Annies, saw him and knew I might be ready to hang out with someone," she told the New York Times in 2019 about their meeting. "They invited him to our show behind my back. They plucked him for me. My security guy Tom, he was in on it too. He said to me, 'He's here. And he's pretty.'"
Looking back, Miranda—who was previously married to Blake Shelton—truly can't believe that she and Brendan came together in the way they did.
"It's like some kinda Hallmark movie or something," the 40-year-old told CBS News in 2022. "Like, this redneck from Texas meets this, like, beautiful NYPD officer on the street in New York. But it actually happened that way."
And the couple has even more to look forward to in the coming weeks as Miranda is set to be honored with the Country Icon Award at the People's Choice Country Awards on Sept. 26.
"A tour de force in country music for more than 20 years, Miranda Lambert's groundbreaking albums continue to capture the hearts of fans around the world," Jen Neal—Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials at NBCUniversal Entertainment—said in a statement. "We're so excited to celebrate her career, fierce individualism and innovation in the industry with the Country Icon Award."
